Finally Getting to Sit For A Minute…

Christian’s show on Saturday was such a big moment for both of us this time — for him, obviously, because it was his collection; his largest yet and the first time he’s used a print (which he created, by the way, he didn’t buy it) — and for me because I scrambled to finish the runway music on time, my mom and brother were there, and I got to sit in the middle of all the front row celebrity action:

It was crazy! I’ve been front row at all of his shows (I demand it in my contract, along with a bag of buttered popcorn jelly bellies and a helicopter entrance), but this was the first time he sat me in the danger zone. I was literally sitting there between Tori Spelling and Alessandra Ambrosio, in my one-of-a-kind Christian Siriano printed and chained shirt, greeting Mena Suvari and Kelly Rowland like I was fucking Kanye. It was pretty great.

He had a huge celebrity turnout this time, it was kind of nuts! Veronica Webb, Tori, Alessandra, Bradley Thomas Walsh (v. famous), Tim Gunn, Kristen Johnston, Kelly, Mena, Katrina Bowden, Leigh Lezark, Miss Jay, Amerie, Estelle, Kat DeLuna, Nina Garcia, and Fern Mallis were there; and Sessilee Lopez and Behati Prinsloo walked in the show. I know I’m forgetting someone. Kristen is one of my favorite people. She talked Tim’s ear off. Next time we go on vacation to her house we are bringing some gowns and my camera and we’re doing a poolside editorial because everything fits her like a glove.

For the after party we hung out with just friends and family at a private bar in the Cooper Square Hotel. Kat and Mena joined us and it was really nice to have just a fun and relaxing sit down with everybody.

Everybody loved the show, the people I spoke to were totally floored and impressed, and I really thought it was his most striking, amazing, well-done collection. I did a few interviews and everyone asked me what it was like to watch him make this collection, and the truth is this is the first collection that I didn’t really see much of beforehand. I saw the prints and died over them a few months ago, and I saw garments here and there in the studio, but I didn’t see things finished and on models this time until I was sitting there watching them go down the runway. In the days since, I’ve been rushing around and doing things like creating the look books and sales sheets for buyers, so I haven’t had much time to think about it all until now. It’s funny to be so taken aback by the creations of my boyfriend, you’d think at this point I would be used to the whole “genius” thing. But nope, every time I have to remind myself that I know this guy.

I created the runway music for him again this time, and so many people told me it was good. I really was proud of it, so thank you! It’s actually made up of parts of songs from my upcoming album, and a remix, minus the main vocals. I left in some oohs and aahs from myself, Alicia Solombrino (Beautiful Bodies), and Amanda Tannen (Stellastarr), and guitar by Benji Madden. The full versions of my songs will be on my album, so I don’t think I’m going to sell this runway track as its own release as I did with past runway compositions. But you can hear it here!
