I’ve never been the type to want to hang out in the sun but for some reason this year I can’t get enough. I’ve taken walks around the neighborhood with the puppy and today after my meeting with a potential agent, I slapped on my swim shorts, made a drink and stuck a straw in it, and laid out a chair in the sun in the living room and had the best afternoon ever. TV off, music on, puppy here, paradise. I’m gonna have to do this more often. Who wants to be my beach buddy?
On Sunday Christian came home from Atlanta for one day before flying off to LA again, and he got back just in time to be here for my shoot. I was photographing Victorya Hong’s holiday collection look book, and the photo above was an outtake that I really loved. I’ve said this before but it bears repeating… Victorya was portrayed as a sort of bitchy judgmental person on their season of the show, but she’s really a very cool person and a good friend. Not to mention, she makes beautiful clothes!

I’m officially sick of this drizzly dreary cloudy gray New York weather. It’s been almost a week and I’ve hit my point; life is lacking sunlight. Give me Vitamin D or give me death! I’m not going to Atlanta with Christian this weekend, so I’m missing the southern sun as well. With any luck this weekend will be pretty like last Saturday and I can take Topper to the park. Though, he likes to pee in the grass and then lay down right where he peed. He’s not the brightest.
Today I photographed director Mitch McCabe, whose next film Youth Knows No Pain follows “an age-obsessed daughter of a plastic surgeon [who] takes a journey through America’s $60 Billion a year anti-aging world.” From what she told me it sounds really cool, though I was skeptical at first that the top name on the cast list on IMDB is Julia Allison.
Opening my Yahoo mail today there’s the headline “Space blob baffles scientists.” The teaser reads: “Researchers peer into the past and find a massive, mysterious object from the early universe. What it might be.” This kind of thing freaks me right the fuck out. So of course I open it to scare myself and fill my head with images of giant blobs out there in the universe that gave off this light billions of years ago that we are just now seeing, and you know… what goes along with that is… what we’re seeing was forever ago, so where is the blob now? Is it right behind me? Is it breathing heavily? At the bottom of the page there is a link to “Original Story: Giant Mystery Blob Discovered Near Dawn of Time,” which is even creepier because the fact that light has a speed really does mean that time travel is happening all around us, and then it’s not a far leap to wondering if maybe Abraham Lincoln is in my bathroom right now waiting behind the shower curtain.
In the article there’s this quote: “The cloud predates similar blobs, known as Lyman-Alpha blobs, which existed when the universe was 2 billion to 3 billion years old. Researchers named their new find Himiko, after an ancient Japanese queen with an equally murky past.”
So on Wikipedia it says of Himiko: “The country formerly had a man as ruler. For some seventy or eighty years after that there were disturbances and warfare. Thereupon the people agreed upon a woman for their ruler. Her name was [H]imiko. She occupied herself with magic and sorcery, bewitching the people. Though mature in age, she remained unmarried. BRB… stuck in a Wikipedia loop… if I disappear, just look for the light I’m giving off now to show up in a few billion years. It’ll have all the answers.

Sunsun is a singer I photographed this weekend, I really like the stuff she sent me. She has a very pretty voice and her music is the sort that ends up on repeat all night long.
We have the second half of the shoot later this week, which, like this one will be styled by Daphna Guttin, with makeup by Carolina Ramirez and hair by DJ. You can listen to Sunsun’s “Last Forever” on the player below:

I’ve taken a bunch of photos of random things to get different textures for background photos in Christian’s book, and just realized that actually, some of these are really beautiful on their own. Not sure what’s up with me lately, as my last photo post was architecture and today it’s this… I promise I’m not done photographing people. Though, a jar of feathers doesn’t talk back, so maybe I’m onto something.

We stayed a few days at the Trump Hotel in Chicago and I probably spent two hours a day staring out the window at this view. I took hundreds of photos of the buildings and landscape. It’s a beautiful city. Here are some of my favorite shots…

Geneva had her birthday party at the Chelsea Hotel again this year, and again (like last year) we were last minute switched into room 103, which is the room where Nancy Spungen died. A little unsettling, but it’s apparently a tradition now. Before everyone arrived, I photographed Geneva around the suite.

So the other night we were at the Nylon anniversary party upstairs in the gifting suite when we Richie Rich introduced us to Lil Mama and Kat Deluna, both of whom were awesome. Kat was in this big Valentino fur and it was perfect. I have always liked them both in theory, but never really heard Kat’s music other than “Whine Up” and the other singles that were on the radio (always). So Christian and I Youtubed her today and found the video for “Unstoppable,” which is her new single from her new album. Um… she and Wayne BLEW IT AWAY. I am so hooked. Watch and re-watch: (more…)
