Sarah’s videos of her and me and Geordon and Leigh and Isaiah sledding on an air mattress. Filmed by Wyatt, I believe!

I Want A New Coat, One That Won’t Make Me Sick

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Last night I started the hellish task of packing for Sundance. Not only do I get to go to a film festival overrun with people who know and care about what you’re wearing, but I’m going with several friends who are known internationally for the clothes they wear. So the heat is on, except it’s not, because I also have to somehow factor in that the temperature is going to be 20s at the highest. When choosing from my (vast, but pretty uniformly basic black) wardrobe, I realize that I only ever wear about 20% of the things I own. And I hate every coat in my closet.

Does anybody have any suggestions for a nice black or gray coat that I can go out and get in the next 24 hours (in New York)? I don’t really like Marc, and I even tried Zara but I guess it’s just not the season. Spring is apparently already on its way, if we are to believe the catalogs. There were lots of things I liked at the Cockpit on Broadway, but nothing there seems to come in a small. I want something longer than a short jacket but nothing venturing into trench territory. I haven’t been to Opening Ceremony in many months; is it worth trying there? I’m not looking to spend more than $400 or so unless it’s a woven miracle of heaven on earth. Help!

I have sent and received some INSANE e-mails over the last eight years. Remind me to not keep a “Letters From Guys” folder any more.

Microsoft word likes to capitalize selectively.

I was telling evan today about the two years in which I made maple syrup from tree sap and realized that that was the best part of high school. At the time it was the most insane and tedious shit – that and looking after the trout in the fish hatchery – but remembering it all now… those things are possibly the most amazing things I’ve ever done. Drilling into trees and attaching tubing, a huge forest of plastic veins going downhill and trickling into stainless steel tubs of clear runny sap, boiling it down 40 sizes into a batch of maple syrup. helping little rubbery eggs turn into the newest members of an endangered species swimming in circles in pools inside a rickety building in the middle of the woods and eventually down the stream. digging up salamanders in the big pile of useless mulch. i miss evan. Life is about the things you’ve done. The people you’ve known and the processes you’ve been a part of. You don’t have to travel if you can’t or don’t want to. I went to Australia for a month and didn’t take any pictures.

Ten Years Since 1998, I Am Old

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

THIS is what happened at Christmas. I had a good week, though. Too bad my family was stuck with me longer than they expected, but I enjoyed taking them around and eating with them at places I never imagined they would be.

New Year’s Eve was pretty low key this year. Went out to Kelley and Ping’s with some crazies and drank my dinner, then had a last minute mini party at Christian’s with a couple of his friends and a handful of mine. Midnight kiss and then I dragged him to Geordon’s house for about 20 minutes. Always crowded there, though I saw plenty of people I enjoyed seeing. Also, props to Miss Hilary Duff, who took Jonny’s crotch gyrations (above her head as she sat on the corner couch) in stride. I didn’t take any pictures. Got to spend the evening with Kathy and Christian and Geneva; if only Jes and Anna had been in the city it would have been perfect. I look stupid in every picture ever taken of me, possibly because I am always drunk when my picture is taken, but also maybe because I just generally look stupid (but please tell me it’s just because I’m drunk).

This weekend I’m taking C and K to visit MR. AND MRS. BECK on ‘Guyland, possibly also eliciting a visit from Trent and David. It’ll be a regular pool party blog-down.
