I was supposed to go to Ohio for Christmas to see my family, but everything went to hell at the last minute and I ended up staying home. But my family came to me! My mom and my brother drove across Pennsylvania (with the dog!) and we spent Christmas at my place. And I got a fisheye lens, which explains most of these photos.

I was really happy to see them; thought I wasn’t going to. I took them to my coffee shop, where my brother obliged my new lens excitement by letting me take lots of pictures of him being a fauxthug. We hung around the house and walked around a little, and drove over the Manhattan Bridge so my brother could get his first-ever view of the New York skyline.

This is the graveyard,

and my Jake, under my blanket, on my chair.

I still want to see my cousin Nicole. I think I’m going to visit Ohio in February. When my family went home, I went up to Yorktown to visit Kathy’s family. Kai and Kathy and I drove around and honked at people who had the audacity to not plug in their light-strewn front yard trees.

I got to see Lenny,

and experiment more with my new camera crap.

Last night was High Voltage, and Anna and I hosted. Got to see lots of friends. It was really nice to have a good night out.

I’ve spent all day today watching DVDs and Reno 911 and AMC and eating carrots and a big piece of chocolate cake that Kathy baked.

Young Love are playing at Rated X on Saturday and Anna is hosting, which I suppose will get me out of the house, and I’ll be at MisShapes since everyone’s back in town. My New Year’s Eve plans are both low key and high fun so that should be wonderful. Anna’s hosting the special Trash that night, but I won’t be able to be there. But she and Josh are having a party tomorrow that I will be at!
I am food hungover from the last week, and also from beer and vodka.

HIM, STILL ACROSS AN OCEAN: She says your album is a success. No songs about me this time?
ME: Nope.
HIM: Probably for the best.
ME: You’ll have to come back and not sleep with me some more.
HIM: I can do that from here.
ME: Touché.

Here’s a video of some of my MisShapes performance last Saturday:
Lots of photos and reviews here, and a couple more videos here.
We found a new diner last night, right near our subway stop. The Purity Diner. Purity of what? Thought? Soul? Ethnicity? Neveryoumindthat, because I love the place. Purity fries (disco fries – covered in cheese with a side of gravy and heart failure) and a bacon cheeseburger. Wheel of Fortune on the TV. Christmas decorations. Wham’s “Last Christmas.” Giant plastic grapes. A waitress who had to ask us twice about everything because she would look away and yell at someone else after she asked us the first time. And it wasn’t too expensive. I want to go back tonight, but I’m going to try to buy groceries instead, after I do some more Christmas shopping. Must hit SoHo Broadway and Union Square for specific items, and then I think I am done.
Tomorrow, come to this:

Sarah and Karen are DJing and I am doing photooos.

The Oohlas played in Sarah’s living room on Sunday for SPRING BREEEAAKK. It ended with a room-wide singalong of “Small Parts,” which was pretty awesome. How many people managed to fit into the living room and kitchen of 3A?

Did Gurj’s mic come from the same party store that the door-sized $50 bills came from, or from a drawer in the MTV prop closet labeled “JUN 92″?

Was Brandon decorating or demolishing?

Where did Jordan’s pants go?

You can see that Shruti wore her yellow bikini top under a white tank, but did she also have theme-appropriate board shorts on below? And if so, did Quinn and Lisa have their hands in the pockets?

If Gurj is the meat in a Frankpollis sandwich, what kind of bread are James and Jackson?

When I say “Tricia and Monkey entertained each other in the bedroom,” am I trying to be dirty?

Also, I’m not sure if I am allowed to post this yet, so I made it really small. Joe is a Gibson ad!

And if you look real close…

After an insane and high-tension week of planning and nervousness, I have many people to thank for my MisShapes show on Saturday. Mostly, Janelle and Geordon and Leigh and Greg. I had so much fun, it was a perfect first show. Janelle put in so much work helping us out.

Thank you, Adrian and Harlo, for singing with me! We did an intro/new song, a live remix of “Do It in the Street,” “Available,” and “Two of Hearts/Sorry.” We practiced together for maybe four hours total, ever, starting the day before the performance.

Thank you, Kathy, for taking lots of good pictures!

Thank you, Ollie, for psyching me up and talking me down, and thank you, Oohlas, for playing a killer set! Killer, I say! Killer!

Thank you, all my friends, for showing up to see me!

Especially Vicki for recording the show with her magic equipment!

Thank you, Raveonettes, for DJing a Killer (I say, Killer!) set and helping out when my set had a momentary technical plop between songs!
Kathy and I ended up hosting Jake, Janelle, Chelsea, and Matt overnight, and my Sunday grocery-buying plans were scrapped in favor of ordering food in and watching TV. Last night was Sarah and Gurj and Brandon’s Spring Break. That will be tomorrow’s story.

P.S. – isn’t Romina adorable?

It’s my half birthday and it’s almost Christmas! That means you are well within cultural standards for buying me things here.
My CD release on Wednesday was lots of fun, there was a good crowd for HiFi. It’s totally weird to hear my whole album play through in a bar and have strangers moving to it and telling me they love it. I hope that continues to happen, and I hope it never stops being cool to me.
This picture of Adrian looks 90% dirtier than it actually was.

This one of Jake looks 90% cleaner than it actually was.

Romina and Cameron brought 90% of the style.

Diana and Sarah brought 90% of the phallic candy cane antics.

Anna brought 90% more hair than she had when I saw her just days before.

Lizzi drove all the way from Jersey for it (which was 100% awesome of her).

Last night was the very last Stolen Transmission Thursday at Annex. An exciting move is coming… Band of Thieves played, led by Tyler from Midtown, which was a nice opening for the party.

Geneva was rewarded for making amazing chocolate heart-shaped cupcakes for us by having her wallet stolen. It was a nightmare for a while, but it finally turned up behind the bar. Sans $100 cash (and every coin – are you serious?), but still, her IDs and credit cards and everything were inside and intact. If only I could have been so lucky when my wallet disappeared.

Faran and Shruti were filming something hilarious and amazing, which you will undoubtedly hear about at length in the near future.

Mr. Keyes showed his handsome face, which still sits atop about nine feet of well-dressed gentleman.

Sarah cut her hair again! Before long she’s going to be Sinead O’Lewitinn. I like it.

Gurj instigated several SPRING BREAK FREAKOUTS.

When I was at the ATM down the street last night a car full of people yelled “BRAD WALSH!” I looked over and saw Brian hanging out the front window and Brandon hanging out the back. Brandon yelled “I’M GONNA POUND YOUR ASS” and then they drove away.

Goodbye, Stolen Annex Thursdays.

If you were to ask me, I’d say I wasn’t the type of American who is obsessed with the BBC. But if you were to take a look at my movie shelf, you’d see that I’ve watched and enjoyed every episode of Little Britain, Coupling, and Absolutely Fabulous that has ever been released on DVD.

Thursday was Lawrence’s birthday party at Stolen Transmission. Karaoke set up.

Anna and Ariel came by.

Lawrence and Mandy duetted.

Brian made the roof cave in.

Jenny and Sarah built it back up.

Lawrence crowd surfed on approximately three people.

Everyone agreed that Quinn and Jordan were, indeed, Too Sexy For Their Shirts.

Friday night we filmed in Anna’s apartment. Anna, Hannah, Julian and I.

Then we vanned it to the Calling All Kids relaunch at Luke & Leroy

and Trash, where plenty of people I don’t actually know or like gave me hugs simply because there was a video camera pointed at me and Anna. Though I did manage to drag actual friends like Geneva and Caitlyn into the line of fire. It was a totally weird experience, but I was very glad that people like Heidi and Jeffrey were in charge. They’re unspeakably amazing.

The next day the four of us met up with Heidi and Jeffrey again to do some daytime stuff, shopping, eating, etc.

And that night they invited us to their apartment for a step into the Barbie Dreamhouse. The living areas are completely pink, floor and ceiling included, and the bedroom is 100% blue. It was insane, like walking right into a dollhouse in 1987. I want to move in and never leave.

Heidi wore a dress to match the bedroom.

Anna matched the gold and yellow bathroom.

This is either a photo of Anna and her sister Rebecca, or of Reese Witherspoon performing a ventriloquist act.

Between Anna, Rebecca, and Heidi, there were probably ninety rings.

We had to leave a little early to get to MisShapes. Scott was in Miami so I took the wall photos for the website this week. Janelle and Jake and I spent the evening talking and drinking in the basement, and then everyone came and slept over my house!

On Sunday we woke up and joined Kathy at her parents’ house in Yorktown, where we all got fat in Panera and Starbucks and then puttered our way home in my noiser-by-the-day car.
