Damn This Foolish Brainfever

I’m still not feeling well, but it’s been downgraded to one of those situations where I have some good hours in the middle of the day, while mornings and evenings are sore throat and achy body hell. Also, all of my skin is really sensitive, which is the most annoying thing in the world to me. Why do our bodies react so that even wearing a t-shirt is painful?

After spending yesterday in bed, I was feeling a little better around dinner time, so I popped some pills and made use of my photo pass at the Editors/Stellastarr* show at Warsaw in Brooklyn. We all know I love Stellastarr, but I wasn’t a huge fan of Editors until I saw them play live. It was a fantastic show, and now I have much more appreciation for Editors’ recorded material. Even the opener was good. Mobius Band, I think their name was.

See a bunch more here.

After work today I am going to see Matthew Barney’s new film Drawing Restraint 9 (starring Bjork) at the IFC Center just a few blocks away. That’s where we saw Steve Buscemi talk about his new movie last week, and tonight Matthew Barney is going to be there to do a Q&A. If the trailer is any indication, this is going to be very strange.

Update: Very strange. And I spied Sufjan Stevens in Row One.

I think Mr. Christensen* might be my number one favorite boy in the world. I’m still thinking about him today. Is that love? Is that what that is?

Hey Brad – I’m curious as to how your pics turned out so well… Low light venues are so hard to get good pics. I’m just curious if it’s the camera – or if it’s a particular setting (though I’m sure it’s a combination of both). I’m struggling with my photos, as you can see in my Flickr photos page: http://flickr.com/photos/rogerzmusic/ any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

warsaw is UNBELIEVABLY low light. everything was backlit– the only frontal lighting came in the form of two medium-level blue filtered stationary spots. i was able to do the whole “rest the camera on one of the monitors” thing for some no-flash shots, but i also flashed a lot. normally with photo passes they make me sign the forms that say i won’t flash, but there was no form that night and tons of random crowd kids had flashing cameras, so nobody bothered me about it. trust me, it’s not my camera… i use a very low-end digital.

also, roger, i do lots of digital editing later. contrasts and color levels. the raw images look much less stunning than the final versions.

Hey Brad – thanks for the tips!! So I’m curious about the photo pass thing. Have you ever tried getting them with the Beachland, Grog or Agora?
